TOLLYMORE FOREST

The Shimna River within Tollymore forest.
Tollymore Forest Park was the first state forest park in Northern Ireland. It is located at Bryansford, near the town of Newcastle in the Mourne and Slieve Croob Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It covers an area of 630 hectares (1,600 acres) at the foot of the Mourne Mountains and has views of the surrounding mountains and the sea at nearby Newcastle. The Shimna River flows through the park where it is crossed by 16 bridges, the earliest dating to 1726.

TORR HEAD

Fun Fact: these pillar things are actually old chimneys, learnt that when I set my bag full of cameras into one and it fell down the chimney hole. All was well and thanks to litter rammed down it, it only fell half way and we could fish it out. But yes look at this new big yellow cat art on the chimney, love it 🐈 🐱

HOW FAN PIC FRIDAY WORKS

Each week, we choose a random selection of the photos we’ve been sent or tagged in on social media.

In equal measures, we want to showcase the people, places and fun things to do around Northern Ireland. So whether you’re snapping with your smartphone, or serious with your SLR, you’ve just as much chance of being featured.

And of course, we simply love just a great photo too - whether it be a smiling dog or a happy memory from your local adventures.

  • Facebook - message us your photos.

  • Instagram - use #NIEXPLORER in your photos and/or tag us when posting the pic @NIEXPLORER.

  • Twitter - tag us @ni_explorer in your photos when posting (note the underscore in our handle!)

:) Happy snapping!
