ARDS PENINSULA
Greyabbey...abbey?
Having recently been to our friends wedding at the impressive San Galgano Abbey in Tuscany, we were instantly loving the ‘Grey Abbey’ - which the town was obviously named after - with its own ancient roofless building and secluded grounds.
Greyabbey is a small town so finding the abbey is easy once you're there. Parking is right outside it and the grounds around it are well pathed.
Kircubbin to Portaferry
Despite wanting to just chill out in the sun at the Grey Abbey, time was ticking on and more of the peninsula needed our attention. From here we took the road south to Kircubbin; a mixture of winding roads through green rolling hills and beautiful shoreline views with the Mourne Mountains looming far in the distance.
Get out of the car and explore the little harbour at Kircubbin - plenty of perfect, quaint little things for the Insta'grapher in all of us.
The hot summer weather made our next stop at the Saltwater Brig even more enjoyable. A cosy little bar/restaurant inside with a lush garden out the side makes this place well worth a visit. And that's before getting stuck into the food and drinks menu.
Approaching Portaferry
On down the road, just before Portaferry, we came across a place where surely the next Windows PC desktop wallpaper will come from. You saw it here first.
And after getting the ferry across from Portaferry to Strangford, we were on our way back up the road again. We'll be back to explore this place in another blog post soon.
