In summary, the following is how we use your data and includes how we comply with the General Data Protection Rule (GDPR) which came into effect on 25 May 2018.

Who we are?

NI EXPLORER. This is a private, independent website with our own views and love of Northern Ireland and around. If we had to call ourselves a type of business, it’s a sole trader. We are not part of any government body or professionally connected to an existing business. Our primary contact method is email - hello@niexplorer.com

What information do we collect?

Information on Cookie Data is covered in our Cookie Policy.

The only other data we actively collect is your email address and location information when signing up for our newsletter.  Your email address and location information is kept in a password protected Microsoft Excel file on our local server in Northern Ireland and also on our password protected MailChimp account as mentioned above.

How do we use personal information?

Overall, it’s to improve the quality of our relationship with you.

1 - Our Newsletter

This is sent digitally, to your email inbox, so naturally that’s the first thing we use your email address for. We also ask for your location, so that when we have updates relevant to a specific area, we can send to just those that are likely to be interested in that content.

The content of our Newsletter is a mixture of information which has been created by us, but may also include information from relevant, carefully-selected third-parties that we have chosen to work. We have judged their communication goals to be relevant to the content you normally seek from us. So if you want updates on Payment Protection Insurance, don’t sign up to our Newsletter :)

2 - To improve the quality of our ads on Social Media and Google

Don’t be afraid at the word ‘Ad’. As an example, this is our normal Facebook posting (e.g. ideas on activities, events, etc), but we pay Facebook money to promote it, so that more people see it. As soon as we do that, it’s technically an ‘Ad’.

On Facebook, we can add your email address or location into our ad setup to improve the likeliness of you seeing our communications. Same on Instagram and Google. We don’t do it on Twitter.

When do we share personal data?

We treat personal data with confidence and as mentioned, will only ever use it for our own newsletter objectives. It will never be shared with other parties.

How long do we keep your personal data for?

The GDPR requires us to retain data for no longer than reasonably necessary. We will keep your data until our reasons for obtaining it change. For example, if you signed up to receive our newsletter, we will delete the data when the newsletter activities cease. The data will be removed entirely from both our local drive and also on the systems that they are backed up on.

Your rights in relation to personal data

If you have any queries about how or when your data has been obtained or is stored by us, please email us at hello@niexplorer.com. As always, you can request for all data we hold to be completely deleted.
