DEVENISH ISLAND

“County Fermanagh has an island for every day of the year…”

Wikipedia says 154.

Let’s go with what the man in the pub told us - easier to remember 👍

Devenish Island is one of the six biggest islands in Lough Erne - with Boa Island, White Island, Lusty Beg, Lustymore and Inis Rath being the others.

Although some of the others can be accessed via bridge, Devenish Island is only reachable by boat - so have a quick Google to check out which operators are running and latest prices.

As part of our Lakeland Adventure, we used Erne Boat Hire Limited. The little red boat easily caters for 6 people, with a little canopy for protection from the rain.

The hard-plastic-type material allowed for the odd jetty-knock or two, when getting used to the steering!

Just before the rain came dashing in, we managed to grab a few pics of the 12th Century monastic ruins.

If you’re heading, look out for the little information points around the ruins - worth a read.
